Well, the animals aren’t fucking sapient. You can’t put a duck’s brain in a jar, make it active and still say you’ve got a duck because so much of what a duck does is instinctual and dependent on its body. With people you can, because we’re, well, sapient, and instinct is often an afterthought (which is why we have about half as many active genes as corn.)
